St. Philip Neri carried this spirit throughout his life:

"A joyful heart is more easily made perfect than a downcast one."

Reverend Whitney Miller

Rev. Whitney Miller was the first priest ordained for the newly created Diiocese of Lake Charles in 1980.  Our diocese was created in April of 1980, and Fr. Whitney was ordained in June of 1980 by Bishop Jude Speyer.  Fr. Whitney was born in Jennings and raised as a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Church.  He went to the Catholic School there until 1968, when he left for high school seminary at Immaculata in Lafayette.  From there, he studied at St. Joseph Seminary  College in Covington, LA where he received a B.A. in Psychology.  For his theological studies, Fr. Whitney attended St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota where he received his Master's of Divinity in 1980.

Fr. Whitney's first assignment  was as Parochial Vicar at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish in Lake Charles from 1980-83.  As a young 28 year old priest, he was then assigned as Pastor of Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Welsh, LA.  He remained there until 1991, at which point he returned to school to begin his graduate studies in psychology, which he completed in 1996, with a Master's in Expressive Therapy and a Ph.D. in Pastoral Psychology.  Since that time, Fr. Whitney has been serving  the diocese in several roles of specialized ministry as Rector of St. Louis Catholic High School, Secretary for Christian Formation, Director of Continuing Formation of the Clergy, Director of Diocesan Counseling Services, and the Director of the Saint Charles Center/Camp Karol.

As of July 1, 2020, Rev. Whitney Miller is assigned as Pastor of the St. Philip Neri Church in Kinder, Louisiana., by Bishop Glen John Provost, Diocese of Lake Charles.
